Eighteen new COVID-19 cases were reported on the Big Island Wednesday, sending the island’s total case count to 3,785.
Of the 85 new cases reported by the Department of Health on Wednesday, 50 were on Oahu, 17 in Maui County and three on Kauai. Three previously counted cases reported for residents testing out of state were removed from the state total on Wednesday.
Since the end of last February, 41,069 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
The Big Island had a 7.4% seven-day positivity rate, over the state’s 4.9% positivity rate on Wednesday. Over the last 14 days, 400 cases have been reported on the Big Island. Over the past week, the island has reported an average of 40 cases per day.
There were 111 individuals statewide hospitalized on Wednesday including 12 on the Big Island.
Three new deaths attributed to the virus were reported on Wednesday with two from Maui County and one from the Big Island. Of the 532 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 410 were on Oahu, 60 were on Maui, 57 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
DOH said Wednesday’s reported case count was a partial count due to an electronic lab reporting system interruption. The issue has been addressed and lab reports should be caught up over the next 24 hours. The July 29 case count will include cases from both July 27 and the July 26 cases that were not included in today’s tally.
Community testing and vaccination sites will remain at the Kona Community Aquatic Center on Tuesdays and the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Testing and vaccinations are free to the public for non-travel-related purposes.
