Teresa Paculba

Teresa Leigh Paculba, 65, of Pahoa, died Aug. 30, 2021, at her residence. Born in Frederick, Maryland, she was a former waitress at Ken’s House of Pancakes and a retired foster parent with the State of Hawaii.

Private services to be held.

She is survived by husband, Rudy Paculba of Pahoa; sons, Preston (Kathleen) Mendoza of Las Vegas, and Richard Paculba of Pahoa; daughter, Crystal (Henry) Kalahiki of Las Vegas; sister, Gayle Kuheana of Hilo; brother, Daniel (Joan) Gaver of Manassas, Virginia; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Loreta Galapon

Loreta Gloria Afaga Galapon, 48, of Kapaau, died Aug. 23, 2021, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Dec. 9, 1972, in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a housekeeper for a resort in Waikoloa.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived husband, Victor Galapon of Philippines; children, Michael (Jhoe Jhie Anarna) Afaga and Michelle (Ronamar) Maladrigo of Philippines, and Marvin (Alyza Bumagat) Afaga and Mike Angelo Afaga of Kapaau; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Susan Villanueva

Susan Leilani Villanueva, 71, of Hilo died Sept. 4, 2021, at her residence. Born in Honolulu, she was the co-owner Reuben’s Mexican Food.

Services are pending.

She is survived by husband, Ruben Villanueva Sr. of Hilo; sons, John Nobriga, Jerod (Shaney) Kahoalii, Jason (Bethany) Kahoalii Antonio, Jerome Heath, and Reuben (Tanya) Villanueva Jr., all of Hilo; brothers, Kenneth Antonio and Roger Antonio, both of Hilo, and Chucky Antonio of Maui; half-sister, Martha Cornelio of Honolulu; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Grant Smay Jr.

Grant “Ed” Edward Smay Jr., 68, of Keaau, died Sept. 1, 2021, at Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born July 15, 1953, in Los Angeles.

No services.

He is survived by husband, Ralph Brydges; son, Mark Smay; daughter, Michelle Lopez; and four grandchildren.

Julia Cuaresma

Julia Guerpo Cuaresma, 88, of Captain Cook, died Aug. 28, 2021, at her residence. Born June 19, 1933, in Kukuihale, she was a cook at Kamuela Deli, macadamia nut sorter for Hawaiian Holiday, and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

She is survived by her hanai daughters, Renette (Joseph Jordan) Ferreira of Captain Cook, and Anette Hemphill of Waikoloa; sister, Crispina Guerpo Quitoiano Madarang of Captain Cook; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Adrein Kalani Sr.

Adrein “Kalani” Haena Kalani, Sr., 56, of Napoopoo, died Aug. 20, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 16, 1964, in Honolulu, hewas a security guard for Viking Services of Hawaii.

No service to be held.

He is survived by mother, Charlotte McShane of Honolulu; children, Kauilani Kalani and Kaipo Kalani, both of Hilo, Alice Kalani and Kuulei Kalani, both of Honolulu, and Herman Kalani III of North Kohala; brothers, Clayton Thomas and Armand Kalani Sr., both of Honolulu; sister, Armanda Figueroa of Kailua-Kona; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
