Damien Carreira

Damien Glen Carreira, 43, of Hilo, died Oct. 5, 2021, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Brn in Hilo, he was the owner/operator of KKC Wood Designs and Basic Booms Sound Systems; and worked construction.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by son, Kinohi Carreira-Galdeira of Kurtistown; parents, Kerwin and Roxane Iwamoto of Hilo; brother, Dennis Carreira Jr. of Hilo; grandparents, Gilbert and Doris Damasco of Hilo and Annie Iwamoto of Wailua, Kauai; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Regan Aila Jr.

Regan “Mana” Lewis Kaimana Aila Jr., 35, of Hilo, died Oct. 12, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 16, 1986, in Kailua, he was a clothing and general merchandise distributor.

He is survived by wife, Phoebe Aila; children, Tehani Aila, Shayla Aila, Kazerae Aila, Jaysha-Lynn Aila, Kainui Aila, Junior Santiago Jr., Bobo-James Asuncion and Layla Subica; father, Regan Aila, Sr.; mother, Nora Aila; second father, Shaun Kanuha; siblings, Racine Aila, Jovan Aila, Jazmin Aila, Alan Dalao and Joshua Gouveia; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walter Thompson

Walter Vernon Thompson, 76, of Kapaau, died Sept. 20, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 8, 1945, in Norman, Oklahoma, he was a carpenter helper for a construction company.

He is survived by son, James Thompson of Dripping Springs, Texas; brothers, James (Gloria) Thompson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and William Thompson of Missouri; half-brother, Sam Thompson of Indiana; half-sister, Ada Thompson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Hugo von Platen Luder Jr.

Hugo von Platen Luder Jr., 86, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 9, 2021, at his residence. Born Dec. 12, 1934, in Hilo, he was the founder of Huggo’s Restaurant.

He is survived by sons, Hugo (Derinda Cantrell) von Platen Luder III of Holualoa and Eric (Scott Dodd) von Platen Luder of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Lisa (Randy) Parker of Holualoa; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Rositania Racelis

Rositania “Rose” Salasayo Racelis, 97, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 17, 2021, at her residence. Born Feb. 16, 1924 in Hawi, she was a retired registered nurse for The Queen’s Medical Center and Tripler Army Hospital.

She is survived by sons, Pedro (Venera) Racelis III of Kailua-Kona, and Mario Racelis of Mississippi; sister, Tita Quiocho; brother, Conrado DePeralta both of Kauai; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mitsuru Yamashita

Mitsuru “Mits” Yamashita, 92, of Papaikou, died Oct. 3, 2021, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Papaikou, he was retired from the former Hilo Coast Processing Co. and a member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission and ILWU Pensioners.

Private services held.

He is survived by daughters, Joanne (Glenn) Vieira of Hilo and Cora Yamashita of Papaikou; two granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Blaser

William P. Blaser, 70, of Kurtistown, died Oct. 3, 2021, at his residence. He was a retired construction maintenance worker and machinist.

He is survived by son, Anthony Blaser of Hilo; hanai son, Christopher Bath; sister, Francesca Blaser of Florida; and numerous cousins.

Helen Henderson

Helen Whitecar Henderson, 104, of Kapaau, died Oct. 19, 2021, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Feb. 24, 1917, in Los Angeles, she was a homemaker and a retired secretary for Kaimuki Christian Church.

She is survived by sons, Dennis (Doreen) Henderson of Honolulu, Greig (Bee) Henderson of Kapaau, and Stuart (Phyllis) Henderson of Nevada; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
