Wilda Mazey

Wilda Winona “Nona” Mazey, 98, of Honaunau and Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 14, 2022, in Henryville, Indiana. Born Oct. 18, 1923, in West Virginia, she serced in the U.S. Navy, worked at Pearl Harbor Navy Base as an executive secretary, and made recital costumes for the students at the Damron Dance Academy.

Private services. Interment to take place at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery later this year.

She is survived by daughters, Chrystal Thomas Yamasaki of Honaunau, Juanita Newton of West Virginia and Cheryl Lynn (John) Kinley of Henryville, Indiana; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Deborah Baker

Deborah Lynn Baker, 67, of Kailua-Kona, died Dec. 31, 2021 at Kona Community Hospital. Born April 29, 1954, in Los Angeles, she was the executive director of the Kailua Village Business Improvement District, a former Ironman Triathlon World Championship race director, past board chairperson of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, former member of the University of Hawaii at Hilo Chancellor’s Leadership and Development Council, Hawaii Community College Chancellor’s Advisory Council and Hawaii Preparatory Academy of Trustees, past-president of the Hawaii Preparatory Academy Alumni Association, founding member and former director of the Onizuka Memorial Committee, former commissioner on the Hawaii County Police Commission and Hawaii County Board of Ethics and recipient of the Hawaii Community College Mahalo Award and Kona-Kona Chamber of Commerce Member of the Year Award.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by companion, Ross Wilson Jr. of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Tara (Thomas Struth) Smith of Berlin, Germany; step-daughter, Lea (Nate Grocholski) Wilson of Kailua-Kona; mother, Betty Dentry of Kailua-Kona; father, J.B. (Diane) Baker of Ohio; sister, Laura Aquino of Kailua-Kona; two grandsons; a niece and two nephews.

Carolyn Conol

Carolyn Conol, 69, of Mountain View, died Jan. 22, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. She was born April 2, 1952 in Hilo.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Jino Conol of Auburn, California, and Jacin Conol of Mountain View; sister, Maggie Shapiro of Kailua, Oahu; and two grandsons.

Iris Namaye

Iris Ayame Namaye, 91, of Hilo died Jan. 23, 2022, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Hospice Facility. Born in Hilo, she was a retired secretary at the Hickam Air Force Base on Oahu, member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Project Dana and an avid golfer.

Friends may call for visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 8 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; private services to follow. Inurnment at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific on Oahu will take place at a later date.

She is survived by daughter, Gayle (Don) Yoshimoto of Camarillo, California; son, Darren Namaye of Brooklyn, New York; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
