A high surf warning remains in effect through 6 p.m. Saturday for west-facing shores of the Big Island, according to the National Weather Service.
A large west-northwest swell will continue to bring warning level surf to most north and west facing shores exposed to the swell, with warning level surf expected to last through Saturday afternoon, forecasters said Friday. The swell is expected to subside to advisory levels Saturday night and Sunday.
Wave heights of 8 to 12 feet along west-facing shores of the Kona and Kohala coasts should be expected through at leasat 6 p.m. Saturday, forecasters said.
Forecasters cautioned that the public should expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may occasionally impact harbors making navigating the harbor channel dangerous.
