Hawaii County Mayor Mitch Roth, Planning Director Zendo Kern and Parks and Recreation Director Maurice Messina will join in Waimea Community Association’s virtual town meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Also during the meeting will be an update on unexploded ordnance (UXO) cleanup in the district with representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and County Councilmembers Heather Kimball and Tim Richards. Also joining in will be Dr. Melissa Gosland with Kaiser Permanente for a COVID-19 briefing – because the pandemic is not really over but under better control.

The meeting will be streamed “live” on WCA’s Facebook page Waimea Community Association. The meeting will be saved to Facebook and YouTube for on-demand viewing thereafter.

Questions are welcome, preferably in advance, via to email to waimeacommunityassociation@gmail.com. Questions can also be typed into the Facebook “chat” during the meeting and will be addressed as time permits.

The virtual town meeting agenda also will include an update by Waimea Community Policing representatives.

April’s spotlighted nonprofit will be Kokua Harvest with Lisa DeSantis sharing her organization’s stepped-up islandwide gleaning activities to harvest fruit and produce that property owners are unable to use to be shared into the food system – via The Food Basket and also community food distribution programs and schools. Kokua Harvest falls under the not-for-profit umbrella of The Food Basket, which provides liability insurance to cover both property owners and volunteer gleaners.
