Hawaii Police Department officers arrested 14 motorists for suspected drunken driving between June 13 and Sunday. Six of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash.

South Hilo officers arrested five drivers while Puna officers nabbed four, according to data released by the Hawaii Police Department. In addition, Kona and South Kohala officers arrested two motorist on each district while Hamakua officers arrested one.

So far this year, there have been 493 DUI arrests compared with 556 during the same period last year, according to police.

There have been 357 major accidents so far this year compared with 370 during the same period last year.

Twenty fatalities have been recorded on the Big Island’s public roadways this year. By this time in 2021, 12 people had died.
