Road closures planned this week in Kona for police investigations into recent fatalities

Hawaii Island police announce that there will be two road closures in this week in North Kona as traffic investigators conduct further investigations into recent traffic fatalities.

The first road closure will occur between 9 and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The southbound lanes of Queen Kaahumanu Highway between its intersection Makala Boulevard and Palani Road while Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) officers conduct further investigation into a June 14 traffic crash that killed a 62-year-old Kona woman.

The second road closure will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. June 23 on Mamalahoa Highway, between its intersection with Old Mamalahoa Highway (Highway 180) and St. Paul’s Road. Both directions of the road will be closed as TEU investigators conduct further investigation of the June 15 traffic collision that killed a 19-year-old motorcyclist.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution during these times and to please plan for trips taking longer than normal due to the road closures.
