Kimo King

Kimo Wendell King, 61, of Hilo, died May 8, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 11, 1961 in Honolulu, he was a fisherman and mechanic.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Aug. 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo; memorial service at 6 p.m. Casual attire.

He is survived by, spouse, Paulette Iopa; daughters, Cherise King, Jayla (Sam Kama) King and Mercedes (Caleb Victorine) Kahele-King; brothers, William (Ruth) Kahele, Jordan Kahele, John King and Michael King; sisters, Germaine Kila, Harollyn Kahele, Paula Krajnyak and Beverly Stone; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; abd numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Albert Gusman

Albert Gusman, 81, of Kapaau, died June 27, 2022, at his residence. Born in Kapaau, he was a retired irrigation worker for the former Kohala Sugar Company and formerly worked for Kohala Nursery, Kohala High School and Holiday Mac Nut Company.

Visitation from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi, Kohala; funeral Mass will begin at 10. Burial to follow at the Hawi County Cemetery. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Filipina Gusman of Kapaau; daughter, Heather (Christopher) Amaral of Hilo; son, Manuel (Alphazena Villacorte) Gusman of Kapaau; brother, James Gusman of Kapaau; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Henry Lyon

Henry Clarence Lyon, 92, of Hilo and formerly of Waikoloa, died July 10, 2022, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Ithaca, New York, he was a salesman for Hilton Waikoloa Village and a U.S. Army veteran.

Private services.

He is survived by daughters, Christine Graham of Hesperia, Michigan, and Sandy (Garret) Gooding of Volcano; daughter-in-law, Mary Lyon of Greenville, Michigan; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Dovelyn Conner

Dovelyn Kawailani Conner, 63, of Glenwood, died July 15, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was homemaker.

Private services. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dovelyn K. Conner may be made to the Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kurtistown.

She is survived by companion, Jay Garrett of Glenwood; children, Jennifer Aderoju of Virginia, Janelle Torres of Mountain View, and John Garrett of Glenwood; siblings, Dawn Travis of Mountain View and Dalton Jeremiah of Oregon; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Susan Arai

Susan Yumie Arai, 78, of Hilo, died July 12, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 7, 1943, in Hilo, she was the retired co-proprietress of the former Su-Mi’s Lunch Shop and Paramount Grill in Hilo, and worked as a cashier at the Hele Gas Station in Downtown Hilo.

Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by daughters, Rochelle Arai and Pamela Arai, both of Hilo; grandson, Jonathan Arai of Honolulu; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Verna Gomera

Verna Marie Vierra Gomera, 67, of Hilo, died June 21, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center, born on June 18, 1955, in Laupahoehoe; she worked at Walmart and the former Woolworths and numerous Restaurants in Hilo.

Friends may call for visitation from 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 13 at Connect Point Church in Hilo, service at noon.

She is survived by husband, Gabriel Gomera of Hilo; sons, Vernon (Rusti Gomes) Gomera of Ainaloa, Gabe Gomera of Hilo and Scottie (Shanelle) Gomera of Keaau; mother, Beatrice Velez Walker of Oregon; sisters, Norma (Joe) Richardson Jr. of Panaewa, Linda (Wes) Nichols of Arkansas and Adalina Evans of Hilo; three grandsons; three granddaughters; one aunt; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
