Stephen Lambuth

Stephen Paul Lambuth, 64, of Laupahoehoe died July 25 at his residence. Born in Pueblo, Colorado, he was a graphic designer and a vestry member of the St. James Episcopal Church.

Visitation from 9-10 a.m. Sept. 17 at the St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Paauilo; memorial service at 10. Casual attire.

Lydia Makuakane

Lydia Ah Hee Makuakane, 98 of Hilo, died Aug. 23, 2022. Born Aug. 2, 1924, in Pahoa, she was a manaleo (native speaker of Hawaiian) who served as a resource person at the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Ka Haka ‘Ula o Ke’elikolani, College of Hawaiian Language as well as at Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Services and member of Kuini Pi’olani Hawaiian Civic Club.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Sept. 19 at Dodo Mortuary cChapel; service at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the University of Hawaii Foundation, Daniel and Lydia Makuakane Endowed Scholarship and Fellowship. She is survived by sisters, Mary Kubo, Mildred Enos, and Winifred Enriquez; son, Junior Ah Hee; daughters, Elizabeth Hansen, Annie Makuakane, Teresa Makuakane-Drechsel, and Gail Makuakane-Lundin; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Vernon Freitas

Vernon Gerard Freitas, 78, of Hilo, died April 7, 2022 at Pohai Malama in Hilo. Born Sept. 4, 1943 in Honolulu, he was a teacher at Konawaena and Hilo high schools as well as various locations in Boston, one of the founding members of the Boston Hawaii Club, and a member of the Malia Puka O’Kalani Catholic Church.

A funeral mass will be held at Malia Puka O’Kalani Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Sept. 17.

He is survived by wife, Mary Freitas; son, John Freitas; and three grandchildren.

Meimi Wesanen

Meimi Irene “Mim” Wesanen Tauriainen, 100, died died Aug. 27, 2022, in Nikiski, Alaska. Born March 12, 1922 in Grayling, Michigan, she was a homemaker and founding member of Star of the North Lutheran Church, attended Ocean View Evangelical Community Church, and St. Luke Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Kay) Tauriainen, Carol (Randy) Tauriainen Ernst, Carl Tauriainen, and Glenn Tauriainen; eight grandchildren, Julie Tauriainen (Travis Stubblefield), Wendy (Matt) Tauriainen Martello, Lyndi (Michael) Miller, Beth (Jim) Grey, Ellee (Kyle) Mietzner, Peter Dolan (Heather Waye), Amy Dolan (Ryan Moeckley), and Seth Tauriainen; two grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nourmous family and friends.

Orlando Albano

Orlando Danilo Aguinaldo Albano, 63 of Keaau, Aug. 14, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 25, 1959, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines; he was a retired papaya farmer for Tropical Hawaiian Products.

Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 22 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; wake services at 6 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Sept. 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo at 9:30 a.m. Burial to at Homelani Memorial Park (Lehua Section).

He is survived by wife, Fellie Albano of Keaau; sons, Daryl Albano and Dason Albano of Keaau; sister, Rosalina Labuguen of Honolulu; brothers, Eduardo (Lodivita) Albano and Modesto Albano of Keaau; sisters-in-law, Corazon Albano of Philippines, Merlina Albano of Stockton, California, Evelyn (Jose) Ramelb of Keaau and Elsa Oriarte of Kailua-Kona; brother-in-law, Rolando (Elda) Corpuz of Kailua-Kona; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Roy Alameida

Roy Kakulu Alameida, 77, of Keaau, died July 25, 2022 in the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Facility in Hilo. Born Feb. 9, 1945, in Waialua, he retired from Kamehameha Schools as a Hawaiian history teacher and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Visitation will be held at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Campus William Charles Lunalilo Center in Keaau on Sept. 24, from 9 to 10 a.m.; memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Visitation will also be held at Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel of the Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus in Honolulu on Oct. 1 from 3 to 5 p.m.; memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. Aloha attire is requested.

He is survived by sons, Kaohele (Diana) Carlos of Los Angeles and Kamaluonapiolani (Diana) Alameida of Wahiawa; brothers, Mark Alameida of Kaneohe, Oahu, and Jeff Alameida of Colorado; four grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Randi Cho

Randi Cho, 64, of Kealakekua, died July 22, 2022, at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 15, 1958, in Seattle, she was a housewife.

Private services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Devin Cho of Kainaliu, Dylan (Christina) Cho and Damon Cho, all of Kapahulu, Oahu; stepchildren; Donald (Gloria) Cho of Columbia, South Carolina, Justina Tracy of Ridgecrest, California, Josephine Cho Freehauf of Kailua-Kona, Jasmine Kala of Honolulu, Darren (Nobilee) Cho of Capt. Manuel Carvalho

Manuel “Manny” Gregory Anthony Carvalho, 11, of Hilo, died Aug. 28, 2022 in Honokaa. Born Feb. 10, 2011, in Hilo, he was a sixth-grader at Waiakea Intermediate School in Hilo, and a member of the Hilo Junior Tennis Club and Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council Troop 19.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo; celebration of life service will begin at 11 a.m. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by parents, David and Michele Carvalho Sr. of Hilo; brothers, David (Annie) Carvalho Jr. of Hilo and Joshua Carvalho of Hilo; sisters, Rebecca (Travis) Delimont of Hilo, Mackenzie Carvalho of Honolulu and Shayley Carvalho of Hilo; nephew, Ezra Delimont of Hilo; niece, Emma Delimont of Hilo; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Aileen Sugiyama-Tomori

Aileen Tokie Sugiyama-Tomori, 70, of Hilo, died Aug. 25, 2022 in the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Facility in Hilo. Born Sept. 21, 1951, in Laupahoehoe, she retired as a cook from the Tomori Tofu Factory in Hilo and was a member of the Honomu Henjoji Mission, Hui Okinawa and Hilo Okinawan Cultural Club.

Visitation will be held on Sept. 23 at Dodo Mortuary chapel from 3 to 4 p.m.; memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by husband, Craig Tomori of Hilo; mother, Yasu Sugiyama of Hilo; sisters, Lillian (Melvin) Tamaye of Hilo, Elaine (Ronald) Tomita of Clayton, California, Trudy Sugiyama of Hilo and Frances Inouye of Renton, Washington; sisters-in-law, Meryl Farmer of Hilo and Robyn Tomori of Hilo; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grandnieces and cousins.
