Kona Community Hospital was the last on the island to welcome its first baby of 2023.

The Kealakekua-based hospital said Tuesday the first baby born in 2023 was a beautiful baby girl born at 7:22 a.m. to Deyri Arita Rodriguez.

No name was provided for the bundle of joy as of press-time Tuesday, however, the little girl weighed in at 6 pounds, 1 ounce and measured 19.5 inches at birth.

Hawaii Island’s first baby of 2023 was a bouncing baby girl born early Sunday to proud parents in Waimea, as reported in Tuesday’s edition. Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital said Monday it welcomed its first baby of the year at 2:06 a.m. Sunday. Baby girl Kalenaku Liliaanuhea Kaiwa was born to mother Tory Jones and father Kahi Kaiwa.

According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Oahu’s first baby came shortly after 3 a.m. Hawaii News Now reported Kauai’s first baby arrived at 2:45 a.m. and Maui’s at 2:25 p.m. making Kaiwa likely the first baby to be born in the Aloha State this year.
