Honokaa man facing multiple drug charges

A Honokaa man is facing a handful of drug offenses following the execution of a search warrant Friday that reportedly turned up marijuana and cocaine.

Omar Gonzales, 36, faces one count each first-degree attempted promotion of a dangerous drug, first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, first-degree attempted promotion of a detrimental drug, and second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug in connection with the reported bust.

According to the Hawaii Police Department, officers from the Area II Vice Section served a search warrant on a residence off of Honokaa-Waipio Road where they recovered 110 grams of marijuana, 50 grams of cocaine, and paraphernalia associated with drug use and/or distribution, along with more than $3,000 in currency for forfeiture.

Gonzales, who was at the residence at the time, was subsequently arrested. Following the filing of charges, his bail was set at $22,250.

Gonzales was released after posting bond and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Feb. 21 in South Kohala District Court.
