Girl Scout cookies to be sold at Kona Commons
If you’re a Girl Scout cookie fan, or you just love cookies, plan to stop by Kona Commons Shopping Center on Saturday, Feb. 18, or Saturday, Feb. 25, between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. to purchase your favorite Girl Scout cookies.
Kona Junior Girl Scout Troop 277’s cookie sale booth will be located in front of Jeans’ Warehouse at the shopping center. Nine cookie flavors, including all your favorites, will be available to purchase. For those not familiar with these annual treats, flavors include: Adventurefuls, Lemon-Ups, Trefoils, Do-si-dos, Samoas, Tagalongs, Thin Mints, Girl Scout S’mores and Toffee-tastics.
All proceeds from the sale will support activities for these Kona scouts throughout the year. For information about the Girl Scouts visit www.girlscouts.org.

Free family caregiver counseling and support offered
Hawaii Island Adult Care, Inc. (HIAC) announces a new lineup of self-care trainings and counseling services for family caregivers.
Thanks to a contract with the Hawaii County Office of Aging, HIAC is offering an extra layer of support for the Big Island’s family caregivers by adding free Family Caregiving Counseling Services to its menu of caregiver-focused programs.
The service by Cheryl Dias, MSW, can help by providing the tools you’ll need to better cope with those effects. Counseling services are free and open to all family caregivers on Hawaii Island. For over eighteen years, Dias has worked in the social services. She joined HIAC as the new family caregiver counselor late last year.
“I’m passionate about helping caregivers reach their fullest potential,” she said, adding “I will help caregivers focus on their own needs and identify their strengths.”

HIAC is a nonprofit that has been caring for kupuna and caregivers since 1976. Its mission is to provide quality, compassionate adult day care services to frail elders and mentally or physically challenged adults, supporting their dignity and independence, deterring premature long-term institutionalization and allowing them to remain at home and a part of their community. In concert with that mission, it is just as critical to provide caregiver respite and support, and the opportunity for caregivers to remain employed while caring for their loved one(s).
