There were no serious injuries when a small passenger plan with five people aboard crashed off a runway Tuesday morning at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport in Keahole.
According to the state Department of Transportation, the pilot of the plane, a twin-engine Cessna P337H, aborted takeoff from the airport’s Runway 35 at 8:51 a.m.
DOT spokesman Jai Cunningham said the plane came to rest intact on a runway safety area, and the airport’s rescue and firefighting team responded.
It’s unclear why the takeoff was aborted.
The pilot suffered abrasions, according to Cunningham, but no one was seriously hurt.
Airport operations were unaffected.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash.
