The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will close the Kona Imin Center starting Aug. 3 to make improvements to the facility.

The temporary closure will extend through January 2016, during which time the Kona Imin Center will be unavailable for public use. New reservations will be taken at the end of January 2016. In the meantime, the Makaeo Events Pavilion at Kailua Park, also known as Old Kona Airport Park, will be available for reservations.

Isemoto Contracting Co. Ltd. will install new accessible parking, a new walkway and ramp, and kitchen and restroom modifications that all comply with requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The project will also provide new fire sprinkler and smoke alarm systems, sewage system enhancements and roofing repairs.

Starting Aug. 5, the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Elderly Activities Division will relocate its Nutrition Program to the Hualalai Elderly Housing Phase 2 complex on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. For information, call 327-3558. The Imin site manager will be available at the West Hawaii Civic Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That contact number is 323-4320.

Additional information about the Nutrition Program can be obtained by calling EAD Assistant Operations Director Coran Kitaoka at 323-4328.
