Carlos Uribe-Bounos

Carlos Po’okela Uribe-Bounos, 20, of Hilo and Ocean View Hawaii, died Nov. 30, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Aug. 30, 1997, in Mexico City, he was a team member at Target store in Hilo. He was an amateur soccer and tennis player at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and a musician who loved playing the guitar and ukulele.

An all night vigil will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 17 at the family’s residence, 92-8803 Lotus Blossom Circle in Ocean View. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Dec. 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Naalehu. Mass will be 10:45 a.m. with burial to follow at the Naalehu County Cemetery. Casual attire and flowers welcome.

He is survived by his parents, Salvador and Amelia Uribe of Ocean View; brothers, Kiliona Bounos of Kailua-Kona, Kekainalu Bounos of Waikoloa, and Makanaokeakua Uribe-Bounos of Ocean View; sister, Amelia Uribe-Bounos of Ocean View; paternal grandmother, Trinidad Morales-Bello of Mexico City; maternal grandparents, John and Roberta Bounos of Kailua-Kona; one nephew; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Shawn Glowacz

Capt. Shawn Anthony Glowacz, 40, of Pahoa, died Nov. 23, 2017. Born Oct. 24, 1977, in Chicago, he worked as a No. 1 crew mate and newly certified United States Coast Guard captain.

Services were held at the Honokohau Harbor in Kona on the No Wiki.

George Drummond

Mr. George Brian Drummond, 91, of Honolulu, died Dec. 5, 2017, at his family’s residence. Born Sept. 18, 1926, in New Castle Upon Tyne, England, he was a newspaper advertising salesman for the former Honolulu Star Bulletin and Honolulu Advertiser.

Services were in Honolulu.

He is survived by his daughter, Michele Buki (Brian) Hudson of Kailua-Kona; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Patricia Nordstrom

Patricia “Pat” Ann Nordstrom, 93, of Kailua-Kona, died Dec. 2, 2017, at her residence. Born Oct. 27, 1924 in Los Angeles, she was a retired bookstore manager for San Diego State University.

A celebration of life will be held in San Diego.

She is survived by sons, John Nordstrom of San Diego, Michael Nordstrom of Lahaina, Maui, Paul Nordstrom of San Diego; sister, Judith Brown of Roseville, Calif.; one sister-in-law; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard A. Ainsworth

Richard Arthur Ainsworth, 72, of Waikoloa, died on Nov. 22, 2017, at his residence. Born Dec. 20, 1944, in Chicago, he worked as a management specialist for more than 30 years in developing countries, mostly in Africa, in public health and population planning and management.

Friends and family planned to scatter of a portion of his ashes in the ocean off the Big Island and to also inter a portion of his ashes at the Hawaiian Memorial Park on Oahu, where his son Christopher is buried. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name for the North Hawaii Hospice, 65-1328, Kawaihae Rd, Kamuela, HI 96743.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Rowan of Waikoloa; former wife, Beatrice Ainsworth of Malawi; son, Richard C. (Michele) Ainsworth; sister, Pam Crouse (Larry) of Carlsbad, Calif.; brothers, Gregory (June) Ainsworth of Oceanside, Calif., and Alan Ainsworth of Ocean View Estates; stepson, Zak (Stefanie) Martinkosky; two grandsons; one granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by son, Christopher T. Ainsworth.

Howard Araki

Mr. Howard Hatsuo Araki, 72, of Waikoloa and formerly of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 26, 2017, at his residence. Born April 15, 1945, in Olaa, he was a heavy and light equipment mechanic; a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Private services held at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 19, 2018 at the Old Airport Large Pavilion in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire and if possible a dessert to share. RSVP by Jan. 12 to leafclipper@hotmail.com.

Florence (Pereira) Ide, 90, of Hilo, died Nov. 24, 2017, at the Life Care Center in Hilo. She was born Aug. 10, 1927, in her family home, in which she lived all of her life, and was a Christian member of Central Christian Church, Church of the Holy Cross, and other choirs in Hilo.

Sheldon Hayashi

Mr. Sheldon Teruki Hayashi, 67, of Hilo, Hawaii, died Dec. 5, 2017, at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born on Jan. 9, 1950, in Hilo, he was employed by the State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources as the operations supervisor for the Division of Forestry and Wildlife. He was a member of the Hilo Meishoin Buddhist Temple, Kuikahi Softball Team and Lincoln Wreckers Athletic Club.

Visitation will be held 3:30-5 p.m. Dec. 21 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire.

Mrs. Mary Leinaala Rocha-Whaley, 83, of Kailua-Kona, died Dec. 7, 2017, at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 8, 1934, in Kohala, she was a teacher and a member of the Maryville Baptist Church.
