Current uncivility won’t
change if left doesn’t
It seems to be the extreme president versus the extreme left. I don’t know whether Trump is insane or a genius or just impure arrogance born of insane privilege. Or a little of all three.
However, his presidency is a product of the media and the perceived desperate fight for survival against the extreme left. The bottom line is that Trump’s supporters feel that they have no choice but to hold their noses (and guard their private parts!) and support Trump no matter what because who else is there?
Trump supporters have seen the riots by the extreme left if their candidate does not win, assassination attempts at a Republican charity baseball practice, dangerous campus disruptions so a conservative speaker cannot speak and the movement to simply ignore law if one does not agree.
Until someone else comes along, Trump will continue to have a strong core.

Amendment to allow surcharge to fund education bad idea
Beware the Trojan Horse and the wolf in sheep’s clothing! This one is so bad that it is being offered to us without the governor’s signature!
We know the politicians want our wallets and purses, yet they still manage to sneak by our common sense defenses, and this time it is particularly harmful and being done by our own legislators!
Before Election Day, we, Hawaii voters, will see our peril between the lines of the constitutional amendment proposal that will give lawmakers the authority to create a new tax to fund education, known as Senate Bill SB2922 HD1
Long story short – this is a very a bad idea designed to tug at your heartstrings!
The goal of this new tax ballot issue is to raise $500 million in property taxes per year to pay for education. In order for this to happen, taxes will have to go up 50 percent.
When you read this ballot issue you will see that there is absolutely no guarantee that the money taken from you will ever, ever reach the teachers, the classrooms or the students who are being used to tug at your heartstrings.
We are a Hawaii public school family, and we know well the terrible state of the educational system. We would love better schools but Hawaii’s skyrocketing cost of living is driving our children out of state! I am also concerned about our high cost of living.
Everyone must realize this new tax targets investment property owners, but will savage renters, small business owners, landlords and really every person in the state of Hawaii.
We are concerned about what this new constitutional amendment to fund education will do to Hawaii’s cost of living. Sure, property owners will take a hit, but what do you think they’ll be forced to do to pay their taxes? They will raise your rents!
That’s just a small part of the picture. This new tax will affect local farms, businesses and much more.
We must vote no.

Cat killer needs to be stopped
I commend you, Mr. Pierce, for your letter word for word. It has to stop. The person or persons doing this is sick. My wife and I have been taking care of some ferals for over five years — feeding, spaying and neutering.
We had the same experience. They went as far as leaving a juvenile kitten who we had fed for over seven months on the path where we would find it. It was heartbreaking! Again, this is sick and totally uncalled for, regardless.
Anybody who knows someone who is doing this and says nothing or doesn’t stop this, in my opinion, is just as sick and twisted as the person or persons doing this and will have to answer for it whether it be from God or whoever they answer to. Mahalo again, Mr. Pierce.
