Lib letters worth a hearty laugh
Wondering why there are so few conservative letters to the editor? Because fiction is so much more entertaining than facts.
Some of the fiction printed as facts are so lacking in foundation (thinking), it’s darn right amusing. Mahalo, West Hawaii Today! The letters to the editor are the first thing we read in our household because laughter is good for our health.

Not too late to block appointee
Despite pundit noise, Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court isn’t inevitable.
Naysayers who think they know something is a done deal are misguided and often hoping to diminish challenges to their goals. But anything that depends upon human decisions, dreams, and fears is up for grabs — until it’s not. (If I got a nickel every time someone said that urban development at O Oma was unavoidable, I’d be rich. The reward for our community not giving up? O Oma is a public park, now and forever.)
Kavanaugh’s name was put forth by our possibly criminal president for a lifetime appointment to our nation’s highest court. Despite refusing to release documents from his legal past (What is he hiding?), his right-wing extremism, and the diligence of Democrats speaking on behalf of millions of Americans who understand the danger of his appointment, Republicans are pushing toward their goal of creating a one-party, corporate-centric government. From past record, that government would ignore the need for strong public safety nets like Social Security, public education, workers’ and women’s rights, water and air protections, voting rights, and a balance of power that defines a healthy democracy.
Politicians feel public pressure. With a razor-thin, two “no” vote margin away from stopping this appointment, we have, and must use, the power that’s in our hands. If every American who sees the dangers of this Supreme Court appointment takes even one action, the tables could turn for “We the People.”
Contact potentially on-the-fence Republican senators like Alaska Senator Murkowski (202) 224-6665; www.murkowski.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/contact). She might see the light with enough public pressure and Hawaii’s Senator Hirono’s wise testimony regarding the need for a top judge to respect the rights of native peoples, which Kavanaugh apparently does not.
Maine’s Senator Collins (202) 224-2523; www.collins.senate.gov/contact) claims to support women’s reproductive rights. How hypocritical to vote for someone who will undermine that right! Then there are Democrats Manchen, (202) 224-3954; www.manchin.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/contact-form), and Heitkamp, (202) 224-2043; www.heitkamp.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/contact), who may cross the line without your input.
It’s not over till it’s over. Speak up now or regret missing your chance to save the world.
