Waikoloa Dog Park Group meeting open to all North Hawaii residents: Next step to bring first dog park to the region

WAIKOLOA VILLAGE — Dog lovers in North Hawaii who want to support a new Waikoloa Village dog park can attend a public meeting from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Homeowner’s Association Community Room, next to Waikoloa Grill &Bar.

    Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union is inviting members and residents to a free Estate Planning 101 seminar to help explain estate planning basics. Held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kohala Intergenerational Center, the discussion will be presented by John Roth, an attorney and program director of the Hawaii Trust & Estate Counsel. Seating is limited.

    Kuleana Wellness Club in Waimea is giving back to the community. A safe place to workout, residents can utilize the facility from noon-3 p.m. on Sundays, beginning this week. Participants can also bring keiki 6 years old and up this weekend from 1-3 p.m. with fun activities provided. Parents must work out while their children are there. Kids’ activities will be offered every second and fourth weekend of the month.

    Special solar eclipse viewing glasses are free for patrons at the Waimea library’s front desk, while supplies last. They will be useful for the upcoming solar eclipse on Aug. 21. Any classes or groups interested can contact the library to arrange for additional pairs. In Hawaii, approximately 25 percent of the eclipse will be visible.

    Monthly Concert Series features Dam Str8 Queens’ MarketPlace will host the free musical event from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 19 in the Coronation Pavilion. This month’s band, Dam Str8, is a local father and sons trio with famed drummer Ronnie Atwater. They will play everything from contemporary Hawaiian to pop, classic rock and originals with smooth harmonies. Attendees are invited to dance on the lawn surrounding the Coronation Pavilion.

    Waimea Athletics is accepting Biddy Basketball registrations now through Aug. 18 for ages 5-6, and 7-8. The fee is $30 per person and includes full uniform set, electronic league photo and team equipment.
