Abraham Silva

Abraham Silva, 86, of Hilo and formerly of Honokaa is also survived by a stepdaughter, Ruth Botelho of Oahu.

Benjamin Macomber Jr.

Benjamin Leialoha Macomber Jr., 84, of Waiohinu is also survived by stepdaughters, Donna (Thomas) Hing of Kona, Mercedes (Charles) Basiliko of Maryland.

Mabel Andrade

Mabel Puaala Makekau Andrade, 66 of Hilo. Born in Hana, Maui, she was a descendent from the royal blood of Kahekilinuiahumanu II, warrior king of Maui, blood father of King Kamehameha the Great.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 4 at Dodo Mortuary. Burial at sea follows. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

She is survived by children, Ronsten, Rachael, Ronalyn, Ronden and Ronelle Andrade, Ronnie May (Eric) Andrade-Ramos, Stanley Remerez Rosario and Sarah Mei (Shane) Remerez Rosario-Black; siblings, Luther, Alex and David Makekau, Josephine Napihaa, Patrick Lopes, Jesse, Alfredo and Joseph Moniz, Irene Riddick, Roxanne Dean, Alberta Parks; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Benedict Raquel

Benedict “Benny Boy” Raquel, 55, of Hilo died July 19, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 8, 1959, in Honokaa, he was a factory worker for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. in Keaau.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. Aug. 7 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He survived by wife, Laurie Raquel of Hilo; daughters, Lainessa (Daniel) Rosenberg and Malorie (Philip Morillo) Raquel Chesebro, both of Kaumana, Bennilynn (Linson) Hiraoka of Wainaku, Chrystal (Kyle Castro) Raquel of Keaau; son, Juanito Raquel of Kaumana; parents, Juanita and Leonard Chesebro of Keaukaha; brothers, Warlito (Linda) Raquel of Papaikou, Rudy (Millie) Raquel of Paauilo, Andres Oania of Kihei, Maui, Rogelio Raquel of Waimea; sisters, Clarie (Terry) Gabriel of Papaikou, Karen (Anthony) Reyes of Kihei, Maui, Valarie (Kenneth) Peters of Laupahoehoe, Milagring (Lourdes Galves) Raquel of Waialua, Oahu, Clarita (Kevin) Acdal of Honokaa; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Janet Keanu

Janet Kamoehau Keanu, 82, of West Jordan, Utah, and formerly of Naalehu died July 25, 2015, at the Copper Ridge Care Center. Born June 25, 1933, in Waiohinu, she was a custodian for and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ka‘u Ward in Naalehu.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Aug. 8 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ka‘u Ward in Naalehu for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at the Naalehu County Cemetery. Family requests casual dress be worn.

She is survived by sons, George Loando Jr., of Taylorsville, Utah, Mark Loando and Shane Loando, both of Kailua-Kona; stepsons, William (Wendy) Keanu Sr., of Hilo, Wayne (Annette) Keanu of Honolulu, Alfred (Myra) Keanu of Waiohinu; daughters, Georgiana (Nolan) Young of The Dalles, Ore., Leona (Calvin) Help of West Jordan, Utah, Cheryl (Wally) Aiono of Taylorsville, Utah, Billie Jay (Junyah) Blanco of Kailua-Kona; stepdaughters, Luana (John) Fox of Honolulu, Charmaine (Dane) Keanu of Naalehu, Maile (Clyde) Keanu of Waiohinu; brothers, Kenneth Kauwe Sr. of Orem, Utah, Stewart (Sally) Kauwe of Utah; sister, Beatrice (Don) Anderson of Ewa Beach, Oahu; 45 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Kama

Charles Loy “CK” Kama, 82, of Hilo died July 21, 2015, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Hilo, he was a retired truck driver/dispatcher with the former Hilo Transportation and Terminal, member of the Hawaiian Bowling Club, BIIF Football Official Association and HT&T Softball Team and a Pop Warner Football referee.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Aug. 9 at New Hope Hilo for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Aug. 10 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for graveside committal services. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Eloise Kama of Hilo; sons, Charles (Mapu) Kama and Greg Kama, both of Hilo, Randy Kama and Gary (Charmaine) Kama, both of Marrietta, Calif., Paul (Myrlin) Kama of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; daughter, Tammy (Mike) Potter of Random Lake, Wis.; brothers, John (Pauline) Kama of Indiana, William (Eileen) Kama of Ohio, Archie (Jeannie) Kama of Pahoa, Harold (Sharilyn) Kama of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Charles Kishimoto

Charles “Charlie” Sakae Kishimoto, 91, of Hilo died June 28, 2015, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Honomu, he was a retired picture framer with Reed and Jay Photography, Modern Camera Center and Hilo Photo Supply and member of Hui Okinawa.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Sylvia Kishimoto of Hilo; sons, Randall (Wendy) Kishimoto and Donn (Evelyn) Kishimoto, both of Hilo; daughters, Karen (Frank) White of Pepeekeo, Phyllis (Derrick) Tsukayama and Laurie Kishimoto, both of Oahu; brothers, Toshiyasu (Sachiko) Kishimoto of Hilo, Hideyoshi (Alice) Kishimoto of Oahu; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Waichi Ouye

Waichi Ouye, 101, of Hakalau died July 9, 2015, at home. Born in Umauma, he worked for C. Brewer &Co. at the former Hakalau Sugar Plantation, former Pepeekeo Sugar Co. and the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., was active for many years with the Honomu Hongwanji, the Boy Scouts and the Big Island Beekeeping Association, was a presidential appointee to the Hawaii Federal Farm Bureau and volunteered at the Kamana Senior Center and the Hilo County Information Services.

Private family services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by sons, Neal (KG) Ouye of Berkeley, Calif., Donn (Lori) Ouye of Hilo; daughters, Eva (Randy) Chun of Renton, Wash., Elin (Dennis Sherman) Ouye of San Francisco; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Valamaria Lewi

Valamaria “Val” Penny Lehuanani Lewi, 56, of Kailua-Kona died June 5, 2015, at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born May 6, 1959, in Kealakekua, she was a caregiver, a former waitress for King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, a room attendant for Kona Hilton Resort and Kona Lagoon Hotel and a cook for KTA in Kailua-Kona and Maxwell Landing.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. Aug. 22 at Hale Halawai for a noon service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by mother, Adeline Lewi; brother, Lester Lewi; sisters, Sandra Lewi, Francine Lewi, Cheryl Lewi, Bernie Lewi, Irene Perez, all of Kailua-Kona, Gladys (Robert) Silva of Wyoming, Dora (Daniel) Perreira of Kohala; brothers, John (Barbara) Caravalho of Kalaoa, Henry (Leilani) Caravalho, Ernest Caravalho, both of Waimea, Christino (Leona) Caravalho of Hilo, Ronald Caravalho of Kohala; hanai sister, Michelle (Albert) Amaral of Kailua-Kona; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charles Douglas Jr.

Charles “Chuck” Leigh Douglas Jr., 84, of Honaunau died July 31, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 2, 1930 in Danville, Ill., he was a retired senior research scientist for the National Park Services in Nevada and an Air Force veteran.

Private service will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Karen Douglas of Honaunau; sons, Ian (Debbie) Douglas of Nevada, Chad (Linda) Douglas of Georgia; brother, John (Jody) Douglas of Virginia; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Lei Tsuji

Lei Adachi Tsuji, 89, of Hilo died July 17, 2015, at her residence. Born Feb, 3, 1926, in Kealakekua, she was a retired secretary for the Department of Water Supply, member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hawaii County R.S.V.P., former volunteer at the Hilo Medical Center and other organizations.

No services are planned. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

She is survived by daughter, Cheryl Nacis of Hilo; brothers, Kenneth Adachi of Kaneohe, Oahu, Jiro (Nancy) Adachi and Shunji (Jane) Adachi, both of Honolulu; sisters, Doris Sugihara of Hilo, Suga Suzuki and Chizu Nakashima, both of Kona; one granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret Arcaina

Margaret Jean Arcaina, 63, of Pahoa died July 27, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 15, 1952, in Allegan, Mich., she was a special education teacher at Pahoa High School.

She is survived by daughters, Andrea Tripp of Allegan, Mich., Genia (Amber) LaNore of Hudsonville, Mich.; son, Devin Tripp of Pahoa; brothers, John Wearne of Otsego, Mich., Chuck (Kathy) Wearne and Tom Wearne, both of Allegan, Mich.; sister, Linda (Kim) Burgel of Bend, Ore.; one grandson.

Richard Dawe

Richard Stanley Dawe, 88, of Kailua-Kona, and formerly of Maui, died July 26, 2015. Born May 25, 1927, in Bournemouth, England, he was a retired laser ranging operator for the University of Hawaii, Institute for Astronomy on Haleakala.

He is survived by wife, Doreen Dawe of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Joan (David) Ramos of Waimea; half-sister, Cristina Barros of Brazil; three stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat grandchildren; numerous nieces andnephews.

Audrey Kakugawa

Audrey Yayoi Kakugawa, 72, of Hilo died July 19, 2015, at her residence. Born Nov. 8, 1942, in Wahiawa, Oahu, she was a retired school teacher who taught at Kohala High School, Pahoa Elementary and High School and Mountain View Elementary and Intermediate School, a registrar at Keaau Intermediate School and member of the Puna Hongwanji Mission.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

She is survived by husband, Albert Kakugawa of Hilo; daughters, Alyson Kakugawa-Leong of Hilo and Aili (Michael) Hallstone of Makaha, Oahu; four grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Hector Gonzalez

Hector Mercado Gonzalez, 60, of Hilo died July 21, 2015, at his residence in Hilo. He was born Sept. 24, 1954, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, he was employed as a floral designer at Floral Mart in Hilo.

Private services were held.

He is survived by brothers, Oscar (Freida) Mercado of Bethlehem, Pa., Gilberto (Patti) Mercado and Raymond Aguila, both of Allentown, Pa.; two aunts; one nephew; three nieces.
