‘Dig for Diamonds’ slated on Saturday
Lanihau Center holds the fourth annual “Dig for Diamonds” starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. More than $10,000 in gemstones donated by Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry and over $500 of prizes by the Lanihau Center Merchants Association will be in the huge 6-ton sand pit. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Kealakehe Warlords Youth Athletic Association.
Live entertainment is planned Saturday by Bosco the one man band and KWXX on stage, with games and prizes for the whole family. There will be free ice cream for game participants. Tickets are on pre-sale now for $4 through Friday at Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry.
Entertainment by the May Day Court of Kealakehe Intermediate School is from 10-11 a.m. Sunday. Then sing along with Joey Frietas and friends until 1:30 p.m., the “Dig for Diamonds” free for all is at 2 p.m. There will be free drawings every half hour.
Curses Food Drive collects 1,100 pounds
Curves, the world’s largest fitness franchisor, today announced that the 2006 Curves Food Drive brought in 1,100 pounds in Kona which will benefit Hawaii Island Food Bank. Around the world, Curves members donated more than 11 million pounds of food to their local food banks.
This was Curves International’s eighth food drive and Kailua-Kona’s sixth time to participate. Every year in March, the woman have the opportunity to donate a bag of groceries in lieu of paying the Curves membership fee. Thousands of women take advantage of this opportunity to help themselves become healthier while contributing to the needs of their community’s less fortunate residents.
