Network launches new Web site
The Hawaii Homegrown Food Network has launched a new Web site, hawaiihomegrown.net. The network is dedicated to building Hawaii Island’s local and sustainable food economy. Since early 2009, the network has produced a monthly newsletter, hawaiihomegrown.net/newsletter, chronicling events, diverse Web site resources, reports about island groups’ activities and announcements related to local food sustainability and security.
The new Web site contains all these features and more, including an events calendar, resource lists and blog. The site also features a community page where home growers, farmers, wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, support organizations and consumers can interact. In addition, Web site visitors can view the various educational programs, government agencies and grass roots organizations providing research, resources, advocacy and infrastructure support for a sustainable food economy.
The project is sponsored by the Hawaii County Resource Center, a program of the county Department of Research and Development, the Hawaii Agricultural Development Program in partnership with the Big Island Resource and Conservation Development Council, Hawaii People’s Fund and the Hawaii Community Foundation.
Membership in the Hawaii Homegrown Food Network and subscription to the monthly newsletter are free. Individuals, farms, businesses and organizations are invited to visit the Web site, subscribe to the newsletter and register as members. Business coach coming to Kona
Desiree Watson, a personal development, business success coach and co-founder of Wealth Inside Out.com, will be coming April 7 to Kona for a speaking engagement. Wilson has more than 25 years of experience in personal development and entrepreneurship.
The event hosted by the Kona Krew chapter of Business Network International will be from 7:45 to 9:15 a.m. at Island Naturals on Kaiwi St. Visitors are welcome. There is no fee to attend.

Board member seminar planned
Certified Management Inc. is sponsoring a free board member seminar from 9 a.m. to noon April 10 at its Kona office located at 75-169 Hualalai Road, Kailua-Kona.
The seminar will cover the basic facts of community associations; roles of the board, fiduciary duty and good communication; where to cut costs and where to start looking; small assembly board meeting protocol; foreclosures — pros and cons of taking quitclaim; and positive steps to improve the community.
Prize drawings will be held throughout the seminar.
