Hualalai Academy recently held its annual Jump Rope for Heart benefit. Participation in the Jump Rope for Heart Program allows students to engage in an activity that is fun and can be done for the duration of an individual’s lifetime.
Hualalai Academy recently held its annual Jump Rope for Heart benefit. Participation in the Jump Rope for Heart Program allows students to engage in an activity that is fun and can be done for the duration of an individual’s lifetime. Furthermore, the program allows teachers, students, parents and friends to reach out and become a greater part of the community by raising funds for heart patients.
“I have had a passion for jump roping for as long as I can remember,” Bonita Steger, physical education teacher, said. “As I teach my students to jump rope it brings back wonderful childhood memories of singing the rhymes, lots of laughing and talking with friends. It is also a great aerobic exercise that builds cardiovascular and muscular endurance. As childhood obesity is on the rise and many schools are cutting physical education programs, I feel extremely fortunate to work for a school that has a strong health program which includes physical education on an almost daily basis.”
Jump Rope for Heart is a national fundraising program sponsored by the American Heart Association. JRFH is a valuable program that promotes physical activity, heart healthy living and community service to children.
