Returning to teach a six-week painting session sponsored by the Donkey Mill Art Center is local artist Lynn Capell. Beginning Sunday, she will meet with her students at 9 a.m. Sundays at various locations in the Kona area to paint landscapes in plein air, which is a French term loosely translated to “on location.”
Capell encourages individual, painterly approaches while completing finished paintings in three to four hours. Each painting session takes place outdoors, often by the ocean or scenic locales along the coast. She will be painting alongside her students to demonstrate technique and composition and offer enthusiasm while also assisting beginning painters.
The classes will run from May 6 through June 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a predetermined meeting place. Beginners are encouraged to apply and intermediate students are also welcome. Supplies will be provided by each student, and a supply list is available when registering for the class. The painting site will change every two weeks.
Capell’s paintings may be seen at Wishard Gallery in Waimea, the Keauhou Store on the Old Mamalahoa Highway, Cliff Johns Gallery and Dovetail Gallery in Holualoa or by visiting the artist’s weblog, lcapell.blogspot.com.
