Cliff Johns Gallery in Holualoa showcases the art of Big Island woodworkers. Now on display is a simple balsa wood and cotton fabric piece of art that appeals to those who love both vintage aircraft and Hawaii.
The biplane, created by Holualoa Village Association President Paul Maddox, is an imaginary aircraft made to represent the early years of inventive flying machines. The “Pineapple Squadron” logo on its sides is a salute to World War I Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker’s “Hat-in-the-Ring” squadron.
The biplane is on display from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Call 322-6611 for information.
