New hours for Ka‘u Family Health Center
Bay Clinic is announcing new hours of operation for the Ka‘u Family Health Center.
The center, located at 95-5583 Mamalahoa Highway in Naalehu, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first Thursday of every month.
The mobile dental van will be in Ka‘u, parked next to the health center, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

‘Art and Sol’ auction set for Sunday
The fifth annual “Art and Sol” auction will feature a wide array of “nifty-thrifty” to over-the-top items. The auction, a benefit for Malaai school garden, runs from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Merriman’s in Waimea.
Auction items will include a small, hand-painted pottery bowl dated to about 1812-50 from the Chinese Tao Kuang period; a wedding present from Mrs. Walter Dillingham, a collector of prized Asian pottery; a two-night stay at a Wailea Bay beach house and a stargazing adventure atop Mauna Kea with a Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope astronomer.

Visually impaired meeting Monday
The National Federation of the Blind West Hawaii chapter will meet at 10 a.m. Monday at Hale Halawai on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona.
Nancy Bloomfield of Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii will give a presentation and bring a small horse for attendees to “see.”
The West Hawaii chapter was founded as a resource and support organization for those in the area with failing vision. People dealing with vision loss and their caregivers are invited to attend the meeting to learn more.

scheduled for Sunday
Kailua Village puts summer into full swing Sunday during Kokua Kailua.
The event transforms oceanfront Alii Drive into a pedestrian-only walkway lined with vendors and live entertainment from 1 to 6 p.m.
Free entertainment begins at 4 p.m. on the lawn at Hulihee Palace.

June book clubs meeting in Keauhou
The Second Tuesday Book Club meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to discuss “Open City,” Teju Cole’s debut novel.
Written in a clear, rhythmic voice that lingers, this book is a mature, profound work by an important new author who has much to say about the United States and the world.
Attendees of the book club are asked to read the book in advance of the meeting and come prepared for a discussion.
The Lesbian Book Club meets at 6 p.m. June 19 to watch and discuss the film and novella “Albert Nobbs.”
Set in a posh hotel in 19th century Dublin, the story is of an unassuming waiter hiding a shocking secret. Just the Facts Book Club meets from 6 to 7:30 June 26. The group will discuss the nonfiction book, “Moonwalking with Einstein,” by Joshua Foer. The work recounts Foer’s year-long quest to improve his memory under the tutelage of top “mental athletes.” He draws on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of remembering, and venerable tricks of the mentalist’s trade to transform his understanding of human memory.
