MOMS project continues in W. Hawaii
Moms On the Move, a project of Family Support Hawaii for pregnant women and mothers of young children, offers fitness classes during the week at various locations throughout the west side of the island. All activities are tailored to the physical needs of new moms, though all caregivers of young children are welcome to participate. Activities this month include a walking group, a belly dancing class and yoga for moms and babies.
Hawaii Island Beacon Community awarded funds for the MOM Project as part of its Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyle Grants. The MOM project aims to address epidemic rates of maternal and childhood obesity facing West Hawaii by supporting families to establish a routine of regular and enjoyable physical activity during pregnancy and early childhood. In addition, MOM activities offer families an opportunity for social connection and access to health and early childhood professionals who can provide individualized support to help each family establish healthy lifestyle habits.
