A 3rd Circuit Court judge sentenced a Hilo man to five months in jail and five years probation for habitual drunken driving.
William K. Sabado, 29, pleaded guilty July 23 to the charge. A police officer stopped Sabado March 23 in Hilo for driving with an expired safety inspection and expired weight tax registration. The officer smelled alcohol while talking with Sabado, and conducted field sobriety tests, which Sabado failed. A breath test showed Sabado had a blood alcohol content of 0.173, more than double the state’s 0.8 limit.
The state charged Sabado with habitually driving a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant after a records search showed convictions for driving under the influence in 2005, 2007 and 2010.
The judge also ordered Sabado to pay $1,800 in fees and fines.
