This past Saturday, the ninth annual Kukio Blue Water Swim took place at Uluweuweu Bay near Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.
More than 250 swimmers participated in the 1.2-mile race.
Oliver Wilkinson swam into first place with a lead of just over 1 minute and a 19:20 pace, finishing with a total time of 23:12. Second place went to Darren Phelan with a time of 24:14. Third went to Stephen Dewald Jr. (24:15).
Fourth overall and first for the women, Madison-Gail Hauanio finished in 24:27. Michelle Vesterby claimed second with a time of (24:39), and Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen earned third (24:53).

On Sunday, Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii held its 27th annual PATH Run. This race included a five-kilometer walk/run and a 10K run. Both races started at Hale Halawai and followed scenic Alii Drive until the turnaround point, where the athletes began the final stretch back to Hale Halawai.
In the 5K race, Seth Rider sprinted to a first-place overall finish with an outstanding time of 17:36. Colin Laughery was only 6 seconds behind in second overall at 17:42, and Walter Thorburn finished in third at 18:18.
Sandra Rollbuhler placed 14th overall and first for the women in 20:47. Deborah Bauthey took second (21:15), and Katie Barnes finished in third (21:34).
In the 10K, Chris Leath flew into first place, finishing the 6.2-mile race in just 32:23. Bruno Invernizzi was right on Leath’s heels for second at 33:15. Luis De La Torre rounded out the top three finishers with a time of 35:55.
Sonia Bejanano took ninth overall and first for the women with a time of 38:59. Shannon Proffit ran into second place with a time of 41:20; Amy Rapaport was close behind for third (41:58).

The fun continues this weekend with Saturday’s Ironman World Championship Presented by MyList. Roads will be closed throughout the day. Check posted signs or ironmanworldchampionship.com for more information about road closures.
The professional men start racing at 6:30 a.m.; the professional women begin five minutes later. The age groupers start at 7 a.m., and everyone has until midnight to finish the 140.6 miles. Good luck to all who are participating in the Ironman this weekend. You are an inspiration to us all.
