Micro-loans to food businesses available
Feed The Hunger Foundation, an organization with more than $1.5 million to award in Hawaii micro-loans, invites low-income entrepreneurs and small businesses in the state’s food sector to apply for available funds. The foundation is dedicated to helping Hawaii achieve economic resiliency through innovative and sustainable solutions.
Past FTHF loan awardees in Hawaii have included entrepreneurs who purchased equipment and supplies for a highly efficient aquaponic fish and vegetable system; opened a small cafe dedicated to using local ingredients; took courses to become a commercially licensed driver; and opened a business serving ethnic foods.
FTHF is able to extend an increasing number of loans thanks to donations made by organizations such as the Economic Development Administration of the Department of Commerce, which recently awarded $1 million to the foundation.

Lanihau hosting holiday craft fair
Santa will be at Lanihau Center on Saturday. The event begins at 9 a.m. with a holiday craft fair and followed by festive fun for the entire family until 3 p.m. — bring a camera and take a picture with Santa or take a holiday pic at the photo booth. There will be arts and crafts, a magic show, free Lanihau Christmas stockings from Santa while supplies last, and holiday entertainment with Lori Lei Hula Studio, Lindsey Ohana, The Salvation Army Youth Chorus, Polynesian Paradise and local performer, Summer. KWXX will have its annual Treasure Chest Giveaway and Lanihau Center will be having a drawing for an 8-foot Christmas stocking and giving away four $100 shopping sprees.
This year, CBRE, managing agent for Lanihau Center, will be collecting nonperishable food items for The Food Basket at the event. The public can bring two nonperishable food items for a chance to win a 6-foot Christmas stocking.
Stockings for soldiers program seeks donors
A Hui Hou Crematory and Funeral Home is participating in the annual Veterans and Family Memorial Care’s “Christmas Stockings for Soldiers” initiative.
From now through Friday, people may pick up a free Christmas stocking to stuff with Christmas cheer for a soldier. A list of recommended items accompanies the stocking. The funeral home will ship the stockings, at its expence, to troops abroad at Christmas time.
