Shizue Tanaka, 89, of Hilo, died Jan. 6, 2013 at Pohai Malama Hospice Facility. Born Dec. 5, 1923, in Olaa, she was a retired custodian from the State Department of Transportation Airports Division Hilo Airport, a former cafeteria helper at Kaumana Elementary School and member of Hilo Meishoin and Fujinkai, Maikai Kumiai, Fukuoka Kenjin Kai and United Public Workers Retirees.
Private services were held.
She is survived by son, Wayne (Carol) Tanaka, of Kailua, Oahu; daughters, Patricia (Leabert) Matsuo, Merle (Karl) Unoki, both of Hilo; brother, Takeshi Sakata, of Hilo; sister, Kikue “Mary” Sueda, of Ninole; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
