Bruce Jenkins hit a hole-in-one on March 11 at Big Island Country Club. He shot from the white tee on the 118-yard 8 hole using a pitching wedge. Bev Jenkins, Denys Heward and Lyn Heward witnessed the shot.
Positive Coaching Alliance April 2
The Department of Parks and Recreation will host a Positive Coaching Alliance workshop at 6 p.m. April 2 at Old Kona Airport Park’s main pavilion.
Registration for the two-hour workshop will take place at 5:30 p.m., and a fee of $5 includes a workshop booklet.

Kona Sailing Club Spring Race Series continues Sunday
The spring sailboat race series scheduled for March 10 was postponed and will be held in conjunction with the next race on Sunday.
Skippers need to register at the Kona Sailing Club, on the north side of Honokohau Harbor at 9:30 a.m. The entry fee is $15 per boat, there will be two mono-hull and one multi-hull fleet. A potluck social follows the race at approximately 4 p.m. For more information about the club, go to konasailingclub.org. The Kona Sailing Club Spring Race Series will be held on alternating Sundays through May 5.
Kai Opua practice schedule set
Kai Opua Canoe Club has scheduled opening practice sessions for the upcoming regatta season.
The first novice B men’s practice will take place at 4:30 p.m. March 26.

for 2013 Hawaii Waterman Hall of Fame
The Hawaii Waterman Hall of Fame is seeking public nomination for candidates for August’s induction.
The Hall of Fame nomination packet and submittal instructions are available at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation’s website, DukeFoundation.org. There is no fee, and the deadline for nominating a candidate is April 7.
The criteria for induction are as follows:
c Sustained outstanding contribution to the sport and the community
c International, national, and local accomplishment and recognition
The 2013 Hawaii Waterman Hall of Fame awards dinner will take place Aug. 22 at the Outrigger Canoe Club on Oahu.

Little League softball registration ends Wednesday
Registration for Gold Coast Little League girls softball will end Wednesday at Old Kona Airport Park’s youth field behind Kona Community Aquatic Center. Registration willl take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The registration fee is $65, and parents must complete registration, medical release, volunteer and code of conduct forms. Girls ages 7-16 may register.
For registration forms, visit littleleague.org and find the “forms and publication” link. League organizers will also provide registration forms at Old Kona Airport Park, where clinics are scheduled to begin Monday.

KGMA hunting
permits available
The Department of Land and Natural Resources will grant muzzleloader animal control permits for feral goats and feral sheep at Kaohe Game Management Area through April 14.
Kaohe Game Management Area is an archery unit for game mammals with no bag limit for sheep and goats. To increase public harvest efficiency of feral goats and sheep, DLNR’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife is allowing the use of muzzleloaders for licensed hunters by permit.
Permits will be available at the Kilohana check station for muzzleloader for feral goats and sheep with no bag limit, but every effort must be made to retrieve and harvest animals within designated areas.
Hunters must use every safety precaution in using muzzleloaders. Blaze orange is required for all hunters in Kaohe GMA, including archery hunters.
DLNR is increasing hunter participation in Kaohe GMA to protect Palila Critical Habitat from overgrazing of mamane trees from feral goats and sheep. Further information may be obtained by contacting the DOFAW offices in Hilo at 974-4221 or in Waimea at 887-6063.

day Saturday
Kai Opua Canoe Club will hold its Try-it-Out and Club Registration Day from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Kamakahonu Beach.

KS-West Hawaii golf tournament April 6
The parent association of Kamehameha Schools West Hawaii will hold its 14th annual golf tournament on April 6 at Big Island Country Club. Check in will be at 9 a.m., and a shotgun start will follow at 10 a.m.
The entry fee is $100 per player, and the format will be two-man scramble format. Lunch and awards will follow.

KBXtreme to host PBA regional tournament
Approximately 40 professional bowlers will come to the Big Island for the PBA West/Northwest Kona Open Regional Bowling Tournament, which will take place April 22-23 at KBXtreme.
Some of the pros expected to attend include Norm Duke, Rhino Page, Scott Norton, Josh Blanchard, Missy Parkin, Michael Fagan, Tommy Jones, Steve Smith and Tom Hess.
The event also includes a pro-am in which amateurs can compete with the professionals. KBXtreme is seeking sponsors to ensure a successful tournament.

Kai Ehitu Canoe Club will hold its inaugural benefit golf tournament April 6 at Kona Country Club. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and shotgun start follows at 8 a.m.

Big Island Candies tournament May 10
The Big Island Senior Golf Tournament will be held May 10 at the Waikoloa Kings Course. This event is open to all Big Island residents aged 55 or older and is sponsored by the Big Island Candies Foundation, Waikoloa Kings Course and the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation.
Residents can enter the tournament as a foursome or individually. The tournament fee is $90 per person, which includes greens fees, cart, lunch, and gratuities. Slots are available to the first 140 entrants on a first come, first served basis.
The tournament format is 18 holes, low net with an established handicap index as of March 2013. The maximum handicap index is 40. All USGA and special course rules will apply. Golfers will be divided into four flights, men and women aged 55-64, and men and women 65 and older.
Tournament entry forms will be available beginning Monday at the West Hawaii Special Programs office West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B, Hilo Kamana Senior Center, Keaau Community Center and by appointment at the Naalehu and Waimea Coordinated Services for the Elderly office.
Tournament fees must accompany completed registration forms to be confirmed. The deadline for submission of entry forms and payments is April 25. Completed forms and payment will only be accepted at the West and East Hawaii Elderly Recreation offices.
