Cancer patients can learn beauty tricks
Registration is now being accepted for Look Good Feel Better, a free program that teaches beauty techniques to women who are currently or have recently completed cancer treatment. Participants will learn skills to better cope with hair loss and skin and nail changes. All classes are taught by trained, licensed cosmetologists. Free cosmetic kits are included.
The next session is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Kona Community Hospital radiation oncology conference room, 79-1019 Haukapila St., Kealakekua.

Words and Wine
hosts the ‘Gecko Lady’
Teri Gagnon, the “Gecko Lady,” will appear at Kona Stories’ Words and Wine event at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Gagnon has photographed the beauty of Hawaii, and geckos, for years. She started Gecko Greetings, a gecko-themed stationery company that features photographs of geckos posed with miniature props, many handmade.
The event at Kona Stories in Keauhou Shopping Center will also feature other guests, free pupu and wine.

Merrie Monarch programs set at Imiloa
Hula performances, presentations and talk-story sessions are on tap for Imiloa Astronomy Center’s Merrie Monarch Cultural Enrichment programs Wednesday through Friday.
The events at Imiloa will provide visitors with an opportunity to learn more about the history and cultural significance of hula and its practitioners.
Friends of hula master George Naope will share their cherished memories in a talk-story session at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a video and panel discussion on the Hula Preservation Society’s footage of “Hula Greats of the 20th Century” at 1 p.m.
A performance by the first Merrie Monarch winners, Hauoli Hula Maids, is slated for 10 a.m. Thursday, followed by a 1 p.m. discussion with the students of kumu Darrell Lupenui on how the masculine dance style ignited a new interest in hula.
A presentation and hula performance by Pelehonuamea Suganuma Harman and Kekoa L. Harman of Ke Kula o Nawahiokalaniopuu and Ka Haka Ula O Keelikolani begins at 10 a.m. Friday. They will share the importance of teaching hula through the medium of the Hawaiian language. A talk story is slated at 1 p.m. with the first Miss Aloha Hula Aloha Dalire and her three daughters, all Miss Aloha Hula winners.

County offers photography classes
Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation is accepting registration for beginner, intermediate and advanced photography classes using film or digital cameras. Morning, evening and darkroom classes will be offered.
Registration runs through Thursday, with classes starting April 8. Class size is limited.
