Sadamu Tsubota, 92, of Pahoa died Feb. 20, 2013, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama facility. Born in Pahoa, he was the proprietor of various businesses, including S. Tsubota Inc., the former “Puna Tavern” restaurant and bar, and “Drip n Dry” laundromat; former manager of Hilo Singer Sewing and Kapaa Singer Sewing in Kauai; World War II Army veteran with the Military Intelligence Service; and member of Puna Lions Club, Puna Hongwanji Mission, Pahoa Nikkei Jin Kai, Kyu Pahoa Kumiai, Pahoa Senior YBA, East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai and Hilo Interpreters Club.
Friends may call at 2:30 p.m. April 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by son, Russell (Nancie) Tsubota of Tempe, Ariz.; daughters, Suzan (Clyde) Nakashima of Las Vegas, Hazelynn (Roy) Amano of Hilo; brothers, Teruto (Kiyoko) Tsubota and Katsushi (Haruko) Tsubota, both of Okinawa, Japan; sister, Tatsuko Hayashikawa of Pahoa; five grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
