Last month, I read the story about Jon Tak, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman broke down on the side of the road. After assaulting her, he left her on the side of the road in her underwear minus her purse. Six months in jail to be served around the assailant’s school schedule. Are you kidding me? This is someone’s aunty, someone’s sister, someone’s daughter …
What kind of man are you Jon and, more importantly, why would some judge think it’s a good idea to let you walk away from this crime with such a small slap on the wrist?
Today, I read about yet another violent criminal that was let out on the streets by our failed justice system and lenient judges. Seon Keoni Aki served just a single year for third degree sexual assault. Now he’s being held as the primary suspect in a murder. This man was dangerous and his actions prove it was a poor choice to let him back onto the streets.
Last year, an immigrant from the Marshall Islands decided to assault my wife in her place of business. He struck her in the face repeatedly, and when she managed to force him outside, he broke the front window and threatened to kill her. He got 90 days in jail. They dropped the property damage and let us to pay for his mess.
What kind of prosecutors and judges do we have on the Big Island that allow this travesty of justice?

Not all people on
the street are bad
On Alii Drive, we have come to know Johnny and his four well-behaved dogs. We stop by frequently to pet the dogs and bring our leftover meals from the restaurants. We have noticed that many tourists also enjoy Johnny and his dogs.
It would be a shame if they weren’t allowed to stay.
