Kohanaiki Club will host a Community Golf Day for Big Island residents on its Rees Jones golf course Monday.
Residents are invited to call the golf course at 854-2760 and leave names and phone numbers. Event organizers will choose 60 golfers to participate in the golf day and contact them to confirm a tee time. All golf fees will be waived for the event.
On an ongoing basis, community play on the course will be available Monday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. for a cost of $275 plus tax per person/shared cart.
Reservations will only be taken via phone at 854-2760, and golfers may call up to seven days in advance to reserve a tee time. Proof of Big Island residency is required.
Kohanaiki will also host charity golf tournaments and youth golf programs in the future. The club encourages junior, high school and college golf programs to contact the course for information on practice and tournament play times.
Kohanaiki is a new, private resort community located along the shoreline in North Kona.
Konawaena football practice starts Monday
Konawaena football practice begins at 3 p.m. Monday at Julian Yates Field.
Returning players as well as incoming freshmen should attend.
All players must have current physical examination and parental consent forms on file to begin practice.
The varsity team will open its season Aug. 17 at Maui High.

40-and-over basketball league starting
A 40-and-over half-court basketball league will start Aug. 14 at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.
