Min beats the men
Ciera Min has been beating the girls on the Big Island for years.
On Sunday, she took down all the boys, too, becoming the first female winner in the 90-year history of the Big Island Amateur.
Min carded a 75 at Mauna Lani Resort for a one-stroke victory over Clayton Amuro in her last tournament before she leaves for Gonzaga University.
Min, a 2013 Waiakea graduate and two-time Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion, finished with a 151 to overcome a four-shot deficit at the Francis H. Ii Brown North Course. First-round leader Shon Katahira opened with a 72 on Saturday but struggled with an 82 in the final round and wound up fourth.
The top four finishers were all from Hilo. Amuro carded consecutive 76s and University of Hawaii at Hilo junior Dalen Yamauchi was another shot back at 153 after dropping into third with a 78.
In the senior division, Warren Arakaki carded back-to-back 75s and edged Richard Gillette by a stroke.
Kyle Tengan scored a comfortable six-shot victory in A flight.
