DLNR sets hearing on commercial boat rules
The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation is holding public hearings statewide to gather public comment on a set of rule amendments designed to bring parity to all Catamaran Registration Certificate holders and update and streamline commercial “use permit” fees, conditions and requirements for commercial operations in all state waters. A meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kealakehe High School cafeteria.
“There has been a significant increase in the volume and types of recreational and commercial activities taking place in state waters since these boating rules were written and last revised nearly 20 years ago,” said William J. Aila Jr., DLNR chairman. “It’s time to update our rules so they are fair and equally applied to commercial operators operating everywhere in state waters.”
Chong to discuss identity theft
Warren Chong, an independent representative with LegalShield, will be the guest speaker Wednesday at the Kona Krew chapter of Business Networking International.
Chong will share information about the seven types of identity theft and how to restore identify to prefraud status. Identity theft occurred every three seconds in 2012, and is the No. 1 consumer complaint registered with the Federal Trade Commission for the last 12 years.

Cancer support group meets Thursday
You’ll Never Walk Alone cancer support group meets from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Cancer survivors and co-survivors are invited to attend the free meeting. Light refreshments are served.

Hawaii County Coor-dinated Services for the Elderly Program will issue senior ID cards for seniors 60 years and older from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union’s Kealakekua branch; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 23, West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B; 3 to 4 p.m. Oct. 28, Hale Hauoli Senior Center, Honokaa; and 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 29, L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center, Waimea.

Hulihee Palace expands tour hours
Hulihee Palace is expanding hours for museum tours to include weekend evenings during the holiday season. Beginning Friday, Hulihee Palace will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Jan. 31.
“We want to open our doors to the dinner crowd and kamaaina families who are looking to do something different on the weekends,“ said docent coordinator Casey Ballao. “The only exception to the evening hours is if we have a private function, then we will be closed.”
Hulihee Palace will offer docent-guided and self-guided tours during the new hours. The palace is also open for these tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays with the exception of the Monday following the monthly Kokua Kailua Village stroll.
Palace admission for a self-guided tour is $8 for adults; $6 for kamaaina, military and seniors; and $1 for keiki 18 years and younger. Docent-guided tours are available upon request.
