The eighth annual Moku O Keawe International Festival takes place Thursday through Saturday at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, with top level hula competition in kahiko, auwana and kupuna, an expanded Made-in-Hawaii Marketplace and Hawaiian cultural workshops. Child safety seat checks are Thursday
Certified child passenger safety technicians will check all child car and booster seats for free from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kona WIC office in the Kealakekua Business Plaza, 81-980 Halekii St. Appointments must be booked at 933-4587.
Kaiser Permanente’s Kona Clinic is also offering an ongoing senior summit program, with educational opportunities on a variety of topics important to seniors. The emphasis is on prevention, personal growth and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The next live video broadcast for the program is 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 18 at the clinic. The program is free, but participants must register by calling 933-4510.
Suicide survivors meeting Thursday
An emotional support group for suicide survivors meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the West Hawaii Community Health Center conference room. The Kona Suicide Prevention Task Force is sponsoring the support group. All community members are encouraged to share in their healing after the suicide of a loved one.

Family Support Hawaii celebrates 35 years
Barbara Dalton, the Big Island representative from Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s office, recently presented Family Support Hawaii’s Executive Director Ray Wofford with a proclamation stating that Oct. 18, 2013, was Family Support Hawaii Day, during a 35-year celebration for the agency.
