A small craft advisory remains in effect for Big Island waters, according to National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu.
The advisory lasts until 6 p.m. Thursday for southeast and leeward waters, as well as the Alenuihaha Channel, according to the service.
Forecasters are calling for east winds up to 25 knots — or about 29 mph — and rough seas of 10 feet for the island’s leeward waters and the Alenuihaha Channel, according to the service. For southeast waters, forecasters are calling for northeast winds up to 25 knots — or about 29 mph — and rouch seas of 10 feet.
A small craft advisory means that wind speeds up to 25 knots to 33 knots and/or seas of 10 feet or greater are expected to produce conditions hazardous to small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in these conditions, according to the service.
