Constitution not just for ‘scholars’

Ms. Kerr wrote a factual summary of the Electoral College on Oct. 24 and a Ms. Owens subsequently complained in a note, stating her opinion that the Constitution is “very, very complicated” and basically must be left to some scholar.

It’s hard to imagine the stunning ignorance of someone who thinks or has been duped into thinking that the Constitution is complicated: In fact, it was written for the common man. Nine black-robed judges who, as Ms. Owens says, “spend all their time trying to find the proper interpretation” of the Constitution are no more qualified than anyone to understand the Constitution. The Constitution is incredibly easy to read and if you have not done so – which seems to be the case with Ms. Owens — shame on you. Ms. Owens berates Ms. Kerr for her presentation of the Electoral College, but Ms. Owen’s opinion that the Constitution is complicated is just that — her opinion — as opposed to Mikie Kerr’s presentation of the facts of the Electoral College.

Since such stunning ignorance of Ms. Owens is especially unimaginable because her article is well written and she seems otherwise knowledgeable, then there is only one possibility, and that is that Ms. Owens is a troll: one who uses negativity to make people second-guess, and fill them with doubt in an effort to draw away from the facts and vilify the person who wrote the facts. Shame on you, Ms. Owens. Wake up!

For everyone: Read the Constitution for yourselves! It’s easy! (but beware: You have to think!) It has 4,543 words — about four pages long. Admittedly, it’s dry and difficult to compete with TV shows and movies, because it’s rated G: There’s no violence, no sex, and no bad language; only basic issues which affect all humans on the planet. The Constitution was never reserved for some judges, or the self-endowed “constitutional scholar” who is the current president.

Ironically, I believe the current president knows the Constitution quite well, because instead of doing his job to execute the laws of the land and to uphold the Constitution, he spends most of his time subverting it; to twist the words to his own desires so that he and others like him are in control. That’s the bottom line of opinions from people like Ms. Owens. They have to find ways to subvert the truth and be in control; surely the common man can’t comprehend how they must live and therefore, someone else must tell them what to do.

This is why everyone needs to be a “constitutional scholar.”
