Those who are older than us often demonstrate love through the sharing of wisdom. Many of those words have been repeated frequently and for good reason. They ring true now just as they did centuries ago, when the grandparents of our grandparents were sharing their love through a fresher version of these antidotes. Last week, on Valentine’s Day, it was nice to emphasize our love and appreciation for others. Luckily, these loving expressions of wisdom are offered year round to encourage and inspire us.

KAPAAU — During any week of the school year, more than 300 Kohala Elementary students from kindergarten through fifth grade can be found in Kohala Discovery Garden planting, tending or harvesting their produce and herbs.
Hawaii Wood Guild Master Show’s final week
Locals and visitors can celebrate the art of woodwork at The Hawaii Wood Guild 2018 Invitational Masters Show, open now through Friday at Isaacs Center in Waimea. The gallery is filled with wood art and furniture ranging from calabashes, dining tables, coffee tables and consoles to sculptures using reclaimed wood.
Final ‘Spring Awakening’ auditions this Friday
Between 3-8 p.m. this Friday, teens and adults can audition for the Tony Award winning musical, “Spring Awakening,” that will premiere at Kahilu Theatre in June. The story explores the journey from adolescence to adulthood and touches on several sensitive coming-of-age subjects, especially relevant today. Participants and legal guardians are asked to review the subject matter of the show before the auditions.

A Youth Mental Health First Aid class will be offered from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 3 at St. James Church in Waimea. Originally scheduled for Jan. 13, it was rescheduled.
