Kids’ motivation purer
than letter suggested
In response to Tom Tucker’s letter March 30, I suggest he stop watching Fox News and other conspiracy promoters. Perhaps by now he saw all the companies that withdrew from advertising on Fox News due to the attacks made on those children.
Yes, the hundreds of thousand kids (and adults) who demonstrated all over the country (and world) are politically motivated inasmuch as they want laws to be made to protect other children and innocent people. However, they did not need to be ” motivated” by some nefarious politicians.
They were motivated by seeing their classmates and friends killed in front of them by a military-style gun that should not be in the possession of civilians. Accusing kids who have just gone through horrible drama of being motivated by politically motivated adults is totally ridiculous. Wake up, Mr.Tucker!

Gun control means
better balance
In answer to Suzanne Field’s letter of March 28, you have misunderstood the purpose of our protests and marches. We don’t want to strip all guns, just a better balance between the right to bare arms and the right to go to school and church and movies without fear of being killed or wounded.
As to being able to protect ourselves from “the military, the law, the criminals,” I have only felt the need to arm myself with this administration.

Still no action on abandoned rigs
Once again, I have been given the gift that keeps giving … Several weeks ago, someone decided to abandon their derelict car in front of our farm. I live on the “Scenic Corridor” of the Mamalahoa Highway in Holualoa.
I called the police (abandoned vehicle number) and was told over two weeks ago that an officer would come and tag the Dodge Neon with “abandoned vehicle.” Unfortunately, no officer came to tag the car. In that time, all four wheels were removed and rocks placed under each wheel. The driver and rear passenger doors were removed and someone decided to take the rear plate (but leave the front one). Along with the “pick your favorite part,” vandals decided to smash the windshield and leave about a half a dozen large truck tires in and around the vehicle.
This morning when walking my dogs and retrieving the paper, I could see a Toyota Corolla parked close to the other abandoned one. I knew I had to give a piece of my mind to whoever decided they needed to do more carnage. After getting closer to the car, I realized that someone else had abandoned this vehicle as well. I am appalled and angered that people just don’t care enough to properly dispose of their junk. If you litter, a police officer sees you do it, you receive a citation and probably a fine for your act.
The County of Hawaii has done nothing to improve this annual occurrence outside my farm. I have previously written letters to the editor, which have been published. In addition, I have made phone calls to Mayor Harry Kim and our Councilman Dru Kanuha. I followed these phone calls with letters explaining ideas of how to resolve this ongoing problem that plagues our beautiful island. No one has reached out to offer any guidance for a resolution of this ongoing problem.
Perhaps when we have our next election, it would be in our best interest to elect officials who see this as a problem and seek a resolution. Maybe when someone is injured on public property because of these illegally dumped vehicles and the county is sued for ignoring the problem, something will be done.
I have a photograph of the two vehicles with their clear license plates. Usually the culprits remove the plates and grind the VIN numbers to avoid tracing these hazards back to them. Shame on them for their actions. Shame on them for ruining our environment.
