I hope the road crew does a better job than they did on Kuakini Highway between Lako and King Kamehameha III. That work is an embarrassment.
The job likrly went no-bid to someone’s uncle.
The work you refer to was a part of a new IDIQ bid award for pavement preservation on state highways. Grace Pacific is the only producer of HMA in West Hawaii, so they were the lowest bidder for this work in North and South Kona. Their initial work between Lako and La’aloa turned out really nice. I hope they’re able to continue on southward towards Honalo.
I could understand the pavement preservation but that does not excuse the poor feathering of the new pavement edges and horrible striping.
On the other hand maybe I am not catching the sarcasm.
The striping that is in place is temporary. The permanent striping is being handled under a separate IDIQ contract. If you want further information, please Google HDOT Highway Program Status. I tried posting the link, but the system wouldn’t allow it. I had a chance to drive over the new pavement, and it seemed fine to me.
It was High School training class.
When are they going to fix the road from Choicemart to Aloha Gas station where they have the new pavement
That stretch by choicemart is brutal, needs repaving bad. Also the manhole on Henry above Safeway is a suspension killer, like 6” too deep.
Can they hurry up and do the Korner Pocket parking lot?
The worst road in town is Kuakini Highway between Pottery Terrace going South to where it merges with the highway. There are dips and holes everywhere like a rollercoaster but not fun.
