Love visiting, but
ease up on dolphins
Aloha everyone and thank you for the opportunity to voice my concerns.
I have been a visitor to Hawaii for the past 25 years. I’ve enjoyed all of my visits to the island and have grown to love coming here every year. I really love to observe all of the sea life in their natural habitat.
My concern is over the tours offering to swim with the dolphins. We stay in the Kailua-Kona area and witness every day the chasing and harassment of the dolphins. Today as I’m writing this letter I can see at least 12 boats and who knows how many snorklers in the water chasing after the dolphins. I’ve tried doing some research to see if this is legal and I can not find any articles sighting the legitimacy of this practice. I wish I could include a picture of the absurdity that I’m witnessing today. The boats have encircled the dolphins obviously in an attempt to keep them from swimming away. How can this be legal or healthy for the dolphins?
I understand businesses need to make money, but it’s a shame that they are exploiting Hawaii’s wildlife to do it. Anyway, enough rambling for today. Again, thank you for the time and attention and I’d like to wish everyone a happy new year to come.

Media hype over illegals
too much to handle
Many of your readers, including myself, are justifiably upset with the media hype about the deaths of illegals attempting to sneak into this country.
Sandra Gray’s letter (WHT Dec. 28) asks why “so much money, energy, sympathy and help” are given these illegals and very little for American citizens.
This is not just a political issue, but a tragedy that can and should be prevented by not kowtowing to the liberal left. When is America going to wake up and demand an end to this madness? Are we going to wait until there is anarchy and a breakdown of law and order? It is a myth to think this could not happen.
