A breath of fresh air
Thank you for continuing to publish Ken Obenski’s “As I See It” editorials. They are a breath of fresh air with reality included. After reading many editorials that are not enlightening, but just a rabid political rant, his words bring a lot of common sense to our world. Thanks again for printing his wise writings. I hope everyone reads his columns.

Support Big Island community theater
I wish to call attention to the tremendous work being done by the cast, crew and administration of the Aloha Theatre in Kealakekua. In August, auditions were held for a production of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” The auditions were well-attended and over a dozen actors from throughout West Hawaii were cast. And, several more local residents volunteered to assist with costumes, make-up, set-design and other technical crew roles. The cast and crew have dedicated countless hours in preparation for a community production.
Alas, COVID restrictions have intervened and all live performances scheduled for this month have been canceled. However, the show will go on! The production has been videotaped and will be streamed online through Oct. 31. Tickets and more information on the production can be found at alohatheatre.com.
The pandemic has taken a tremendous toll on the performing arts on the Big Island. Many artistic companies have closed temporarily or even permanently. Through this difficult time the Aloha Theatre has managed to remain open to provide both employment opportunities and top-rate theatrical productions and classes for Hawaii residents. Our community support is needed to keep the Aloha Theatre going during this difficult time and sustain its role in contributing to the vibrant arts scene on the Big Island.

Nan Inc. deserves a prize
Nan Inc. completed the new customs facility at Kona International Airport for significantly less than the contract price and two months before the deadline.
This would be unusual in normal days, and is amazing during the recent disruptions. They give me hope. Now, could they get the DMV to function, please?
