Thank you for thanking us
On Tuesday, while my wife and I were shopping at Safeway, we had a completely unexpected experience with much aloha.
I am a Korean War veteran and always wear my Korean Vet cap when outside, some to protect my bald head from skin cancer and also to show I am proud to show I served my country. A woman came by us and thanked me for my service and then held her hand out and gave me a cased coin. When I looked closely it was a “Thank You For Your Service, Honoring All Who Served” coin. By the time I realized I should thank her, she had moved off.
I just really want to thank her for being so kind. She made my day over and over. Mahalo.

No bill — just sweet words
Evidently, as my husband and I were people watching and having a lovely late lunch/pupu treat at Big Kahuna in Kailua-Kona, four young ladies were watching us enjoying ourselves. It was a little crisp after all the rain so my husband and I cuddled a bit to keep warm. Pupus and meals are always fun up there. And the view of the ocean is lovely.
Evidently these gals were enjoying their view watching us. We’ve been married for 40 years and evidently do still care deeply for each other and it must have been visible to our onlookers. We heard them chatting but they were behind us so we never saw them nor did we speak to them.
As we got ready to pay our bill our waitress gave us the bill folder. It was a very strange experience to find a bill sized sheet of paper (see photo at left) that the four girls signed telling us how they felt as they watched us. They had each signed the paper but there was no bill. The ladies had treated us to our meal as they had enjoyed watching us so much. We would love to thank them for such sweetness. Bev, Jessica, Ashley and Nicaleet … the last name isn’t clear! If you girls read the paper, this is a shoutout to you for making our day! Stay healthy and happy.
You’ll grow older very easily enjoying the people around you.
