Are you kidding me?
I read the Aug. 31 issue cover story about power shortages with complete disgust! So the current state of our power grid on this island is equal to rolling blackouts because some generation stations are out of service, and “the wind” is not scheduled to be sufficient in the near future? Are you kidding me?
My I ask a few questions of the Leeward Planning Commission? First, why do you approve new housing developments when there is not enough electrical supply to power the houses and businesses that are already here? Secondly, why do you approve new housing developments when we are being asked to significantly reduce water consumption because not enough water wells are online?
Finally, why do you approve new housing developments with no transportation infrastructure improvements?
On this rock, we are low on water, low on electricity, and high on terribly rough roads that are in need of serious repair! How come we don’t make the developers drill wells for the new neighborhoods, require solar panels on every new house, and we should require the developers to pave the streets — they are the one’s damaging the roads with their heavy equipment that they use to “build” the new developments in the first place.
All of the above points to real failures of our public servants in our Public Works departments, and the Leeward Planning Commission, and should not continue. Have you seen the new development on Alii Drive lately? Driven down King Kam III or Kuakini?

A tale of two presidents
I can almost hear Joe Biden declaring, “I’m going to spend whatever trillions of dollars it takes to stop inflation in its tracks. We don’t have the money but I’m going to borrow from China and print as much paper dollars as needed to take down that inflation monster! That’s a promise!”
If Trump found himself in the same inflation situation, he might have made the mistake of haughtily denying it at first (“Fake news!”), but after, probably would have started passing out millions of MOCA hats (Make Oil Cheap Again)! And then instead of the Inflation Reduction Act (which was a misleading misnomer), he would have the Oil Cost Reduction Act or OCRA (which would pass instantly because of the catchy acronym as opposed to the more obvious Trump favorite: Fuel Cost Reduction Act).
But then Trump would have said, “Student loan forgiveness? No way! Dad paid for mine!”
