Angels among us
On. Dec. 13, I went to the main post office in Kona to mail a small package, I parked my car and went in. The line was long but the self-service part had only three persons: A man with a large envelope who was waiting for the instruction and a young Japanese-American woman with three large flat rate boxes. I offered to hold one for her but she said they are light, just macadamia chocolates to send to her friends (families?)?
Then she asked me if I have just one to mail, “yes.” Then she let me go ahead of her, I have used a self-service before, but I kept on fumbling so she came to my aid and typed in the information and I was done! I thanked her but I was so overwhelmed with her kindness that I left without getting her name. I hope she will see this if this makes the WHT’s Your Voice. I will be 100 in two months but to receive her kindness in this busy holiday season is mindblowing. Mahalo nui loa to my unknown angel.

Concerning ‘Do not
let them do it!’
Cathy Sinclair’s letter on STVRs was spot on. Beside the obvious horrors; is the fact these purchases by out-of-state investors/owners often take affordable housing away from locals. Depending on the neighborhood location those impacted might be our hospitality employees and young professionals. Folks we all need, so our community continues to function and thrive.

Squatters
What is the humane and charitable solution to Kona’s homeless problem?
Please tell me how it is that squatters are being allowed to take up permanent residence in camps on public Kona property?
Isn’t such activity illegal? Isn’t it a public health issue?
The camps behind Hale Halawai and at Honls Beach are not only being allowed but they are growing.
Who is addressing a solution to this growing problem?

Second worst trade ever
The trade of Brittney Griner for the “Merchant of Death” is the second worst trade in American history. The first was when the Boston Red Sox traded Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees.
