Two women were rescued Sunday from Honokane Nui Valley in North Kohala.
The two women were part of a group of five hikers in the valley, which is located east of Pololu Valley, that became separated by rising waters. The remaining three hikers, a woman and two men, continued to Pololu Valley Lookout where they called 911 for help.
Rescue personnel from the North Kohala Fire Station responded at 1:23 a.m. Sunday and determined the two stranded hikers were safe and advised them to remain in place until help could arrive. At first light, Chopper 1 located and extracted the hikers, bringing them to a landing zone established at Pololu Valley Lookout.
Both women were uninjured and declined EMS treatment.
